Weather on the Web
Nowadays the TV meteorologists have some dazzling
technologies. But, they can’t hide the fact that they
are about as certain of their predictions as an investor
hoping for high yields in today’s stock market.
The
unpredictability of weather has called for tools that
produce hourly or even minute-by-minute data for weary
commuters and travelers.
Weather sites such as The Weather Channel's
www.weather.com
give more
up-to-date information when needed. It includes current
conditions and forecast for US cities, plus a variety of
U.S. surface maps. There is also a travel conditions
page with flight delay info.
www.intellicast.com
is a
fantastic site for quick-loading weather images,
forecasts by city, and other weather information. You
can also find world-wide weather and ski reports here.
You'll want to check out the new animated radar map.
Very cool!
There are many other weather sites you can visit,
including:
www.accuweather.com
www.wunderground.com
www.usatoday.com/weather
www.cnn.com/weather
For
spectacular color weather maps for Hawaii and the US
mainland, see
http://lumahai.soest.hawaii.edu
Do
you want to explore more? How about an index of 700
live weather cams? The University of
Michigan
has a directory with links to thousands of weather sites
at
http://cirrus.sprl.umich.edu/wxnet
The
National Weather Service site,
www.noaa.gov
is loaded with
information, worthy of a long visit.
AWS'
WeatherBug uses a network of 6,000 local stations that
update weather information every minute or so. Download
the free program at
www.weatherbug.com.
It places
the current temperature on your task bar. Click on it,
and you get updated local conditions and forecasts.
