Seniors on the Internet
A
recent report by Forrester Research found 65% of North
Americans 50 and older are using the Net. The number
one activity of seniors on the Internet is staying in
touch, but close behind is the search for news and
events, according to a recent SeniorNet report.
As
you would expect, the growth in Internet use by seniors
has spawned numerous Websites dedicated to this group.
I’ll review some of the better sites here.
www.aarp.org -
This site is loaded with useful information; including
health & wellness, travel & leisure, money & work, and
volunteering.
www.wiredseniors.com - Is a portal site
“dedicated to the needs of the over 50 age group.” It
has a home exchange service, a seniors discount mall, a
dating service, a seniors radio section, and many other
features.
www.seniors.gov
- This federal government site has news of interest to
seniors as well as thousands of pages on topics of
concern.
www.seniordiscounts.com - Has more than 120,000
discounts on file for folks over 50. Go get those
bargains!
www.seniornet.org
- One of the unique features of this site is it has
over 600 discussion groups on topics of interest to
seniors. Get your questions answered, and share your
knowledge on a wealth of topics!
www.seniorjournal.com - Another portal site,
loaded with useful news and information.
www.thirdage.com
- Yet another senior portal. The site has a clean
design, is easy to navigate, and has well written
stories. Like others, it has a very active discussion
group section, a dating service, and other “connecting
people” features.
www.friendly4seniors.com - This site has
organized links to over 2,000 senior related Websites.
www.wwseniors.com
- Arizona Senior World sponsors this site. It has
information of interest to local residents.
www.thegeezerbrigade.com - “The Internet’s
oldest humor site for clever old people.” Enjoy. :-)
